BARRIE, Ontario – The Canadian police say they have freed 43 "modern slaves" from Mexico who were allegedly forced to work as cleaners during their holidays.
Police began investigating last year and completed 12 searches
Rick Barnum of Ontario Police said Monday that the victims had been tried in Canada, believing that they would be offered legal employment opportunities.
He says they were forced to live in "poor" conditions and pay their alleged merchants money. Barnum says they will sometimes have $ 50 a month after paying their employers.
Browning says criminal charges can be made later
Employees from salvation have been offered a job and accommodation in the resort of Ontario.
