According to several reports, a Florida state man is accused of beating two men to death and injuring a woman with a baseball bat, and a 10-year-old woman called from a nearby room.
Allegedly 34-year-old Ezekiel Emanuel Hopkins broke into John and Lisa Savey Windermere’s home ownership late Thursday, driving his vehicle to the gate at the entrance. He then tried to steal the car before the couple stopped him, said Windermere police chief David Ogden and a local branch of Fox 35 Orlando.
“He attacked John Savey, leaving him dead outside the residence. Then the accused went inside the residence and attacked Lisa Savey, who left for her home,” Ogden said during a related press conference. “Defendant also attacked John and Lisa Savey̵7;s son, James Savey, leaving him dead inside the house.”
All the while, John and Lisa’s grandson, James ’nephew, was calling 911 from the bathroom where his grandmother had told him to hide, the nest reported.
“I don’t believe the family was targeted,” Ogden said. “I’m sure he was just trying to find another vehicle to steal because he had seen police officers some time ago.”
Hopkins was found inside another bathroom, according to the report, who did not respond after police suspected he was drinking bleach.
He was taken to a nearby hospital and charged with murder and the battery lifted.
The woman was seriously injured and rushed to a neighborhood hospital, the outlet reported.
“Words can’t really describe what we want to say to the family,” Ogden said. “It’s a terrible situation.”
