Lake Zurich, Ill. – Numerous social meetings on the fourth of July could have led to more than 70 new COVID-19 infections in the Northwest suburbs.
The researchers used contact detection in 73 people to detect coronavirus. Those people include students and adults at Lake Zurich and the surrounding community.
The Lake County Department of Health says it is having difficulty forcing people to answer phone calls and contact traces. Officials urge anyone who receives a call from the department to return the call as soon as possible.
The number of positive cases is expected to increase in the coming days.
The outbreak has already canceled summer sports camps at Lake Zurich High School.
The health department warns all participants in the social gathering to wear a mask and keep their distance.
