Trauma surgeon Dr. Samuel Kingsley told reporters that the officer with the wound on the left side of his neck was placed on a breathing tube and was stabilized by doctors.
The suspect was also shot and taken to hospital, Brown said. His condition was not released.
The shooting took place at about 9:40 a.m. when officials tried to apprehend the suspect – described as a violent car offender ̵1; at a police station on the northwest side, Brown said.
Officials have spotted the car since June 26, driving downtown. According to Brown, they erupted when they arrested the suspect. “Officers got behind the car and found it to be a moving vehicle, stopped the car, detained the suspect, and the rest ended after that,” Brown said.
Investigators were still trying to sort out the details of the confrontation, Brown said.
