Miami Marlin’s coronavirus outbreak: four more MLB players test positive

Last week, ESPN reported that 17 people tested positive. The postponed season began on Thursday.

CNN contacted Marlins and MLB to confirm and update the team’s status.

After a series of three games in Philadelphia, the team did not travel back to Miami on Sunday, but stayed overnight to try more.

According to an MLB spokesman, Tuesday’s game between the New York Yankees and Phillies has been postponed. No other details were provided. The evening game in Philadelphia was postponed with caution, ESPN reported.

The Marlins home opener against the Baltimore Orioles and the Yankees game with the Phillies were also postponed Monday night.

On Monday, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred, when asked if it makes sense for the league or team to break the schedule, said: “I think a team losing a lot of players that has made it completely uncompetitive would be an issue we should address and think about change, whether or not it was the closure of part of the season, the whole season, depending on the circumstances. ‘

“Same for the whole league. You’ll get to a certain point in the whole league where it will actually become a health threat, and we would really close at that point.”

Before the Marlins game against the Phillies on Sunday, the Marlins learned that the starting pitcher Jose Urena would not be played.

Marlins told CNN on Tuesday that the team had warned the league and Phillies of the team’s “positive tests” before Sunday’s game. According to Marlin, the Phillies “agreed to play.”

Urena rated the Covid-19 positive, citing a number of sales, including ESPN and The Philadelphia Inquirer.

But the players who took part in the group chat decided to play the game, Miguel Rojas, who had interrupted Marlins in a video chat with reporters, said.

“We have made the decision to continue this and we will continue to be responsible and just play the game as hard as possible,” Roy said.

The Marlins won the game, 11-6.

Over the weekend, Florida became the state with the second highest number of coronavirus cases, surpassing New York, the country’s epicenter during an early pandemic.

The return of professional sports could not have come at a worse time as the number of cases in the United States continues to rise, with more than 4 million confirmed cases, according to Johns Hopkins University.

The shortened 60-game MLB season has no spectators. It introduces new rules, including a ban on spitting, to prevent the virus from spreading.

Like baseball, the National Football League plans to start the season at regular team home stadiums. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell wrote in an open letter on Monday that the pre-season games had been canceled.

Other sports leagues update the so-called “bubbles” of teams to limit interaction with the outside world.

The WNBA ended the season Saturday at the IMG Academy in Florida. The NBA plans to resume its season later this week at ESPN’s extensive world sports complex in Orlando, and the NHL plans to restart with double bubbles in Toronto and Edmonton. In Utah, the NWSL Challenge Cup ended Sunday with a Houston brother winning the title.
