EVERETT – Snohomish County has first confirmed measles cases in the last outbreak – a teenage boy visiting North Creek High School in Bothell.
On Wednesday, the Snohomish Health District published a list of places and dates from which it was infected. May 5th Up to 12 d. "We will reach parents, especially those who have an exception for vaccination," health commissioner dr.
Later that day, the district said on the web: "We contacted North Creek (High School) families with non-vaccinated students. These pupils will be removed from school until June 3rd.
The North Creek case is one of five recently approved in West Washington. Two were in the King's County and two in Pierce County. These four cases were related to adults, said State Health Care Officer Dr. Kathy Lofy.
One person was fully immunized and one was not immunized, said Lofy on Wednesday. The remaining three vaccination states were unknown. Officials did not indicate where these patients lived.
One in five was hospitalized, she said.
Lofy said the new cases were not related to an earlier outbreak in the Clark County, where most of the diseases were among children.
"We are likely to see extra cases here in Washington," she said.
All five recently infected people have spent time at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport during their potential exposure or infection.
The first case was confirmed on May 12 during the latest measles outbreak. – Pierce County Man in his 40s, who was not hospitalized. The second Pierce County resident was confirmed on Wednesday. The man was also not hospitalized in his 50s.
Measles are very contagious and can be serious. It is common when an infected person speaks, coughs or sneezes.
Vaccination of measles, mumps and rubella is the best prevention measure, Lofy said.
"It's important for everyone to check their immunization status," she said.
After a single dose, the vaccine is effective at 93% and after two doses at 97%.
According to the measure signed by the Government of Jay Inslee earlier this month, parents in Washington will no longer be able to claim personal or philosophical exceptions for their children to receive combined measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine before attending a day center or school. The new law comes into force at the end of July.
Last year 90 percent All Snohomish County kindergartens received MMR vaccination under the National Health Department. Northshore ranked fifth among Snohomish County School districts, 91.1 percent. The largest Edmonds school district was 92.3 percent. The lowest was Stanwood-Camano 79.1 percent.
According to the State Health Department, in 2019 There were 77 cases of measles. 52 of them were 1-10 years old. Another 15 were 11-18 years old. A total of about 70 cases were reported in Clark County.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that there were 839 confirmed measles cases in 23 countries this year from May 10th. This is the highest number reported in the US since 1994, and since the announcement of measles in 2000.
